Romanian and Bulgarian experts have started a discussion over the eventual construction of a lift above the Danube that is to connect the cities of Ruse and Giurgiu. According to supporters of the idea, the lift would let tourists avoid the heavy traffic on the only bridge that currently connects Bulgaria to Romania, built in 1954 between the cities. The lift is expected to increase mobility between the cities and aid economic development. It will also be a tourism attraction, proponents say.
