Sofia opened on Monday a forum on the occasion of the United Nations (UN) 60th anniversary. The meeting is being held under the aegis of the Bulgarian President and the prime minister. The event also marks 50 years since Bulgaria's admission into the organization. Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Solomon Passy opened the conference, which was also joined by his Irish colleague Dermot Ahern, who is also a special UN envoy, and other European statesmen. Participants are expected to make an assessment of Bulgaria's 50-year membership, and draw out a plan for the country's future contribution to the UN.
